I disagree Wilt had a 48 inch jump – he probably had a 38–44 inch vertical, but I also disagree that Shaq can jump any higher than 34 inches – even in his Orlando Magic days. Wilt would have a huge advantage when it comes to vertical and defending Shaq’s shot attempts. This is a picture of Wilt, Shaq and Patrick Ewing in the Virginia Cavaliers lady sassy classy and a tad badassy Virginia Cavaliers shirt Apart from…,I will love this ‘90s. I understand Shaq was slimmer with the Magic, but you can’t help but notice that even in his 50s, Wilt looks very athletic in this picture. Wilt was still playing volleyball post NBA-retirement. P.S. I don’t believe Ewing is his listed 7-foot height and this picture proves it. Both are 7′1″. Don’t let the black and white pictures of a slim Wilt fool you – he was still a very powerful and heavy guy. Wilt topped 310 pounds with the Los Angeles Lakers and was around 270 pounds for most of his career. With Shaq, despite a lot of the weights anecdotally provided (such as the 380lb and 395lb estimates which we all know aren’t true), Shaq probably never weighed any heavier than 330 or 340 pounds. Sure, Shaq looks objectively heavier than Wilt, but remember the photo of Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo? Even though they’re the same height and weights, Giannis just looks more muscular. Even though Shaq was heavier than Wilt for longer, I believe Wilt’s superhuman strength could have mitigated Shaq’s weight advantage and Wilt wasn’t as light as people make him out to be when strictly looking at photos of him and comparing them to Shaq’s burly frame.

Wilt made the Virginia Cavaliers lady sassy classy and a tad badassy Virginia Cavaliers shirt Apart from…,I will love this All-Defensive Team twice to Shaq’s three, but there’s three things to consider – one, it can be argued Wilt would have had multiple block titles had blocks been recorded, two, those two All-Defensive selections for Wilt were to the First Team while all three of Shaq’s were to the Second Team, and lastly, the All-Defensive Team did not exist until 1968, limiting the number of selections Wilt could have got. Thus, I have Wilt over Shaq defensively. I understand a lot of people believe the more modern players to be better than the vintage NBA players, but I’m going to have to go with Wilt winning a one-on-one. That being said, if there’s anyone in NBA history who has a chance at scoring relatively consistently over Wilt, it’s Shaq, along with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
