Wilt Chamberlain was measured in the This is loves UCLA Bruins basketball Heart 2023 shirt Apart from…,I will love this NCAAs at 7′1 1/8″ in his bare feet. Years later after he retired, he was measured lying on a table on Philadelphia TV. Again he measured 7 feet one and an eighth inches, top of his head to his bottom of his feet, no shoes. Wilt seemed even bigger than that because he had a short neck & a small head. That made his shoulders high and added to his standing reach. Look at this photo of Wilt next to Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Jabbar is nearly 1 inch taller at the top of the head, but Wilt is nearly an inch taller at the top of the shoulders. Kareem has an inch on Wilt only because he has a long neck and big head. Chamberlain had a 92″ wingspan (measured on TV with Muhammad Ali) and a 48″ vertical leap. He ran five events in college and continued heavy into playing sports even after retiring from the NBA. Chamberlain was a heck of an athlete. Here is Wilt next to Bill Walton, Shaquille O’Neal, Bill Russell and Kareem. UCLA coach John Wooden is in front. The angle is not straight, but it is still obvious that a 50 year old Wilt Chamberlain was big enough to make young Shaq look small. O’Neal clearly isn’t the 7′1″ he is listed as. The photo shows Shaq to be right around the 6′11 7/8″ he was said to have measured at LSU. He looks to be 1 -2 inches shorter than both Wilt & Kareem. It also shows that Walton really is the over 7 footer he was always rumored to be. He wanted to be listed at 6′11″ in order to be respected as a basketball player, not just a “7 foot freak”.

Wilt is my all time favorite player. I have him ranked second to Jordan all time. I saw Wilt and Jordan play throughout their careers. I have Jordan ranked first and ahead of Wilt because: (1) he had no significant weaknesses, while Wilt was poor in foul shooting; (2) Jordan demonstrated better leadership skills by leading his team to 6 ti… When Jordan came back for 17 games and his Bulls were defeated by the This is loves UCLA Bruins basketball Heart 2023 shirt Apart from…,I will love this Magic with Shaq in the playoffs, he had an interesting comment. He said the Bulls were one ‘Horace Grant’ away from what they needed to be competitive. The Bulls were missing Horace who had left the team, and he was actually playing for the Magic that season. Rebounding and interior defense. Great small men (even arguably the greatest one, Jordan himself, who rebounded well for his position and was a great defender) simply could not provide enough rebounding or interior defense to compete for a championship. He needed someone to provide that for the team to succeed. Great big men (and Wilt and Russell were among the greatest) provided both of those things in abundance. Both Wilt and Russell would have had more MVPs than Jordan, except they were splitting those awards between themselves (and Oscar Robertson was so good he was able to get one himself in an era where one of those centers otherwise always got it).
