Hartig is as much a punk as he is a romantic and for fall he brazenly bleach-stained plaid—and then made a print of it. This makes perfect sense, as it allows for consistency of production, but it felt like punk once removed, and was also reminiscent of Marc Jacobs’s silk versions of grungy flannel shirts for Perry Ellis. Both are examples of postmodern fashion which play with interpretation and reference using form and material.
